Aretao's staff has been involved in capacity-building, organization change, and social change work since the 1980's. Some of the more significant recent projects undertaken by the Aretao team include:
Local-Centre, Chisinau, Moldova
Aretao provided start-up research, strategic planning and competitive analysis for Local-Centre, Chisinau, Moldova. “Local-Centre” is a non-governmental institution created for the purpose of improving the knowledge of local government officials by providing training and encouraging cooperation between local public authorities and international institutions. The Local-Centre’s focus is on creating a link between international experts and local officials for economical, social, and cultural development.
Dare Mighty Things
The Aretao team has worked closely with DMT since 2004 on a variety of projects including intranet design and implementation, including ensuring that proper instructional design systems were in place, developing their application for membership in the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), developing and implementing their distance education course management system, working with them to completely rewrite the manual on Post Residential Operations: How to Succeed for the National Guard ChalleNGe Program (www.ngycp.org).
Gate City Community Development Corporation
Aretao team members have served in many capacities on corporate loan to Gate City CDC, a local non-profit that works in the Nashua NH area. These capacities include establishing its training facilities and programs as well as training its trainers, and training its clients in computer skills. Dr. Shankle served two years as the part-time executive director in corporate loan to Gate City; he also set up and coordinated the Americorps program there and served on the Mayor’s Ethnic Awareness Committee. Americorps projects include minority and immigrant women’s health initiative, writing ESOL curriculum for online training, facilitation of Donation Networks, and distribution initiative of open software for non-profits.
Aretao Online Courses - University of San Diego
Aretao has built a number of online professional development courses at our E-Training Portal. These courses build the skills and the expertise of the workforce in your organization so that the organization moves forward to fulfill its mission, goals and vision. We offer some courses with graduate credits through the University of San Diego.
Alternative Education Resource Organization (AERO)
Aretao supported the online development of AERO training as well as hosts the course “School Starting 101.” The Alternative Education Resource Organization (AERO) is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 to advance learner-centered approaches to education. AERO is considered by many to be the primary hub of communications and support for educational alternatives around the world. The goal of “School Starting 101” is to help educators assess the feasibility and resources required for starting a school. The course is designed to address the practical was well as methodological and philosophical issues pertinent to the process of starting a school.
Transcarpathian State University
Uzhhorod, Ukraine. An Aretao team member was part of a team from the University of Massachusetts who worked at the University to set up a public administration program. This was part of a US State Department grant which included provisions for in-service training for municipal officials in various cities in the Transcarpathian Region.
NGO Nehemiah. Uzhhorod, Ukraine
Developing a strategic planning and business plan course for presentation. Nehemiah is a faith-based NGO which is working with the community on a number of projects, including community economic development.
